Michael Laudrup to Bundesliga ? (Off topic) |
|
Hello supporters from Bröndby.....
My name is Matthias and i `m a supporter from the actual Bundesliga league leader VFL Wolfsburg.
As our Coach Felix Magath decided to leave the Club at the end of the season , we are looking forward for the following coach.
Rumours appearing and among others Michael Laudrup who coached Bröndby for about 5 years is a candidate.
Wolfsburg bekræfter Laudrup-interesse
Michael Laudrup er inde i billedet til at efterfølge Felix Magath som træner i Bundesligaklubben Wolfsburg, siger Wolfsburg-direktør
Now we are interested if you have some information about his skills as a coach ?
Of course we all know that he was one of the most creative midfielders in the world.Really amazing to watch him playing , but as a coach ?....we dont know.
Maybe you write down some words concerning your impressions about that.
Greetings to Bröndby

Michael Laudrup to Bundesliga ? |
He likes attacking shortpassing football as a manager like he himself played when he was a player.
He isn't known to have a close relationship with the players and his nickname from his playing days: "The ambassadour" is fairly accurate. Very diplomatic but not one you get close to, not as fans either.
Before Laudrup we'd been used to calling the players as well as the manager down to say hi before the match. These days we have thanks to Laudrup given up on the manager.
His teams tend to play beautiful football but he is not someone who talks a lot with the squad. --- Mvh.

He is very commited to the "Barcelona/Ajax style of play" - an offensive 4-3-3. I guess Brøndby supporters are divided into two groups; those who miss him and those who don't. I believe he functioned very well with his assistent coach, John Faxe Jensen (currently managing Randers FC) in Brøndby, but he has not yet proved that he can manage well without him. In Spartak Moscow I don't think, he had the best conditions of work, though. If he goes to Wolfsburg, I will follow his actions with interest, and no matter what, I wish you good luck in the German Championsship race :-) |

Thank you Mojo , last 2 Matches will be tough......
Nevertheless , sounds quite interesting.....
because our team is surely managed as a 4:4:2 yet....
Magath ( former playmaker , just as Michael ) likes to have a playmaker in his team and obviously prefers offensiv style ( especially with offensiv outside defenders )
Compared to a 4:3:3 , a third our better a fourth really good striker was necessary for Michael Laaudrup.
With regard to the fitness of the players under the " ambassadeurs " management
what would ya say ?
Was it an important point for ML ?

His style of play is all out attack without reservations if he have the perfect squad, but obviously he'll have to compromise this philosophy in the real world, but defence is not a point of focus.
When he first appeared in Brøndby, he commented that his preferred line up would be a 3-4-3, but this Laudrup obviously also realized only works in Football Manager even before it became a fact on the pitch.
In Brøndby he was a coach who showed excellent skills in developing players with technical talents, where Thomas Kahlenberg, Johan Elmander and Daniel Agger, but also Morten Skoubo, rapidly improved their game, and rose to absolute stardom in the Danish League. Especially Skoubo was probably, and surprisingly, the one who developed most under Laudrup, from a stationary rock with a good header, to a very useful striker.
-
As for his handling the squad, I believe many are little impressed the way he was very distant to the players, and this especially shows in some pretty harsh remarks from players in the rim, who chose to communicate through the press, of which I am sure you know very well from the German League. ;)
Besides that, Laudrup was also the man behind some quite fatal transfers, that really kicked back from his last half season, and continued to haunt us for two years during the black period of which we have just now resurfaced. The players proved to be far below the level you would expect Brøndby paying good money for, and also personalities conflicted within the squad, why there was a year of headlines and door slamming in the wake of Laudrups reign. On that note I will put some remarks on his agent, Bayram Tutumlu, who is an absolute dick, and was physically shown of the premises by our president, after absolute scandalous behaviour during negotiations of Laudrup's contract extension, which ultimately failed.
I for one is little impressed at his coaching skills, and find that he does not have the personality to handle a squad, and make them play as a team. He is not the man to have a the rudder in rough sea, because he doesn't inspire a fight when needed, and his concept in respect to style of play, seems fragile if things are not running smoothly. He's an excellent personal technical trainer, his tactical skills are questionable and you wouldn't want him on the bench during troubled times.
I would be very sceptical to sign him now, as he is more name than results.

Don't think it was a personal crusade to have 11 iron men starting on the pitch, but I am sure he was aware that he couldn't neglect this, which was also one reason why he teamed up with former Arsenal plough, John "Faxe" Jensen, who knows this part of football better than most.

Thank you very much for this detailed view.
Surely
a striking point is how to lead a squad without creating an atmosphere of dissension.Michael seems to have to do homework solving this.
Transfers actually should`nt be the department of the coach if the coach is overextendet with that. That of course requires confidence in the skills of a responsible second transfer manager.
For a club´s decision hiring a new coach one decisive reason should be : experience , maybe he learned ?..maybe not ...
we`ll see.. |

Mr Laudrup has an amazing football philosophy. He is very much inspired by Barcelona playing style. In Broendby he changed the format to 4-3-3 with very offensive backs. The main concept of his game is to play in shorpassing in triangels and do it in a high tempo.
On the negativ side Mr Laudrup is not much involved with playsers and do not chit chat with them.
For meMr Laudrup is very professionel and he will one day be coach of a very top international team.
I hope he will come to your club and I will follow his closely. |

A lot of experts here in Denmark agree that Michael is at his best as a coach if he enters a team that is already in progress as your team certainly is as he is not the one who has the patience to build up a team from scratch. So far he has been in Getafe and Spartak besides us. In Getafe with a limited player-material he still managed to reach the UEFA CUP quarter finals and the final of the Copa Del Rey.
In Spartak it was simply just a matter of cultural differences and promises on behalf of the Spartak administration that werent kept, that made the breach between them and Laudrup.
When he was with us we only won one out of 4 championships but people forget that we still won silver the other times and therefor it would be harsh to call Laudrup a failure.
Entering a team with players like Grafite and Dzeko I'm convinced Laudrup will shine. Personally I miss his extremely offensive style and they way our players excelled in the art of playing in small spaces when he was with us. I think you will be very happy with him - if he is chosen.
Regards and good luck in the race for the championship - I for one am extremely impressed by your players. Grafite in particular. --- STAND FREE! WHEREVER YOU MAY BE

Thx Returnofthemack....:)
Of course to take over a stable team is a big advantage for everyone...
But its not sure which players will leave .Best would be if all stay.
Chances are not bad , .........when reaching the champions League.
Do you think ML could lead a team through the Cl.
I mean : Field is prepared , ML surely could expand the player pool .....
What about his charisma......?
Very important for a team that will establish itself to head the Bundesliga.
If something is going not as expected , is he able to keep it away from the team ?.
What Do you think?
To Grafite : absolutely impressive Striker ...what a Fun , watching him breaking the defense
barriers of so much teams...
You are 2. in the Danish League , played 29 matches, with 12 teams ?...im a little bit irritated..
However...good luck...
maybe Champion ? |

I most certainly think that Laudrup could lead a team through the champions league. He has tried it all as a player and being in the top as a trainer is where he can use his abilities.
His charisma is another thing - a lot of people will say that he doesen't have any or that he is withdrawn as a person. When he was with us he wasn't the one shouting at the players - that was John Faxes job, and when it comes to handling conflicts I imagine Laudrup is a little withdrawn as well. Some players of ours at the time gave the impression that Laudrup wouldn't even come and talk to them and give them a reason if they had been taken off the starting 11. So no - Laudrup is not you Felix Magath or Der Kaiser.

Michael Laudrup to Bundesliga ? |
Laudrup is a very exciting coach, who wants to to do everything his way.
It's not for nothing he came in conflict with the leaders in both Bröndby, Getafe and Spartak. If he learns to develop a more compromising style, he is just wonderful.
In the beginning he hurled out the players he didn't want, and that did not play his style. When he started to build up a team with few but great stars and upcommings for the rest. A bit like Barca under Guardiola.
After some time this tactic culminated in 2004/05, when enough stars were brought and the talents were at their hight. From there the people behind the team (probebly including Laudrup) started bying players a notch below those many we sold and too old, and BIF ended 2nd in his last season.
As said before Laudrup is great developing young technical players.
He lead us quite a strech in the UEFA, and I know he did even better with Getafe. But look out! The guy has a bad reputation in bad times. With us he began complaining about the players preformance and gave somewhat up :s
I'll compare him with people as Van Basten, Fred Rutten and Rikard (maybe Schuster also). Perhaps a bit inexperienced, and perhaps too naive and principal, however if all the right factors are present he'll make the players play like Barcelona! I might say he'll win the EL or get in the 1/4 finals in CL with Wolfsburg if things play out.
EDIT - Don't let him ruin the club. Enjoy(!!!!) him in 3 seasons and get another ;-) |

He says he has never spoken with Wolfsburg (or Ajax), and he wants to be a coach in a country in which he master the language.
He furthermore states that his german/Dutch is not good enough!

Michael Laudrup to Bundesliga ? |
Michael Laudrup is withouth the shade of doubt very good at individual coaching of players, making them, the offensive players in particular, flourish as individuals and develop their skills.
Also, he is an ambassador for sportsmanship and fair play, but as much as this is a strenght and a quality, it's also his problem. He can seem to sometimes lack the spark and the willpower to inspire his teams.
As others have written, he's a firm believer in the shortpassing game where you keep the ball in your own team and display the skill and patience to find the eventually created gaps in the opponents defence. To many, this is the best and most interesting kind of football, but it's also harder to make it work, and you're taking a risk by insisting to play like that. When it works, it's joyfull though - and he did become a bit more realistic after half a year in Brøndby, so he's not naive or anything.
I love the man, he's been a great ambassador for danish football. But I do have doubts regarding his manager career. First of all, he might lack some willpower and aggression, secondly he's seemed to be focused mainly on nursing his own career, trying to make fast progress at the cost of long term planning in regard to ensure healthy development in the clubs he's been in.
However, he's also a brand and a figure with a lot of charisma aswell as intelligence and integrity. He's not in any way a bad manager, but he has weaknesses of course - as does everyone but Sir Alex Ferguson, it would seem.
But as we said in our family: "What Laudrup touches just seems to turn into gold". He's got plenty of time to show that this is still the case. I'm not at all sure that he wont be a top 15 manager in europe in a few years. I don't find it to be extremely likely though.
A sidenote here: I've seen an article today in which he says he wont be managing german or dutch teams, simply because of not speaking the languages well enough. So he's probably not going to end up in Wolfsburg. --- http://soundcloud.com/quitedk |
